We heard that there is a particularly alarming girls’ fashion mobile game lurking in the app store, so in the spirit of RocketNews24, we decided that we had to try it out for ourselves. The game in question is Mary&Ange II, an updated version of, well Mary&Ange, a simple dress-up game for iOS and Android produced by Halcon. The game seemed innocuous enough from the download page, even though reviews were mixed. However, little did we know there was a hidden secret inside…

The landing page seemed pretty cute, although the not-so-stylish font and hyperlink seemed to be a warning sign. Nevertheless, we clicked on “New Game” and proceeded with our adventure.

Like most dress-up games, you get a cute girl whom you can dress up with different pieces of clothing. In Mary&Ange II, you pick from a variety of different backgrounds such as the pastel-tinted sakura tree scene above, as well as from ten different girls each with different hairstyles and facial features. After picking your girl and background, it’s time to dress-up! The game even comes with a bunch of clothes in your closet. However, for the more fashion savvy, you’ll want to go shopping in the in-game town for the latest looks.

The game starts you off with 500 in-game coins, after which you’ll have to fork out extra money to buy more clothes. We’re not sure if anyone would actually do that, but we head off to the first store we found interesting, which was the “Ethnic Costumes” shop. Here they had everything from Chinese dresses to something from Honduras. We went ahead and tried out the Japanese outfit.

That seemed pretty OK, but then we tried on the one from Spain.

All right, something is definitely a little off here. We are pretty sure that Spanish women do not have to withstand such uncomfortably disproportionate clothing. We quickly changed back into our original outfit and put the Spanish dress back on the shelf before heading off to the other shops. There was an adorable Lolita Store…

Hold on a second. What did she just walk past?

Let me scroll back again.

No. Way.

Sandwiched between an adorable dress shop and the lolita store was…this…

It’s not even a Halloween-themed shop or anything. In fact, it’s not clickable. In the middle of all this slightly out of shape bubblegum pink cuteness, there is a building that resembles a burning skull. The game developers must have been really upset when they were making the game…

We’ll probably never find out why Halcon decided to put that in the game, but as usual, the large range of “interesting” apps on the app store never ceases to amaze us. If you’re in for some scary dress-up fun, check out Mary&Ange II!
